LOVE YOUR PARK DAY: FURNESS CENTENNIAL ARCH
Date: Saturday, May 10, 2014
Time: 9AM to 12PM
Place: Furness Centennial Arch, on Kelly Drive, just past the Strawberry Mansion Bridge

This "almost" forgotten gem by Frank Furness once stood as part of the 1876 Centennial Exhibition and was moved to its current location on Kelly Drive shortly after the world's fair to mark the entrance into Fairmount Park. The stairs, now defunct except for the occasional regatta or daring runners, leads up to Strawberry Mansion directly from the busy west side of Kelly Drive. Its location originally corresponded to a boat dock (the remnants of which are still visible today).

This volunteer day will help cleanup vegetation around the Arch, along with completing some re-pointing maintenance and graffiti removal. We are looking forward to meeting other enthusiastic preservationists in an effort to help preserve our beautiful, historic Philadelphia parks!
