Longwood Gardens and Dan Lepore & Sons Company have graciously agreed to host a behind-the-scenes tour of the stone conservation work being undertaken as part of the Main Fountain Gardens Restoration. Please join the Association for Preservation Technology and the Philadelphia Area Conservation Association on the evening of Thursday May 5th at the studio of Dan Lepore & Sons in Conshohocken, PA for a discussion and tour of the work in-progress.  Light refreshments and h'orderves will be served.

Built in 1931 by Pierre S. du Pont, the Main Fountain Garden at Longwood Gardens is recognized as one of the “crown jewels” of the Longwood site. Drawing from his European garden travels and passion for engineering design, Pierre engaged Florentine sculptors from Alessandro Olivotti & Co. to help create this architectural marvel. After decades of operation and a multi-year evaluation of conditions and design of repairs, work is now underway to restore the fountain to its original splendor. As part of a large scale effort, Dan Lepore & Sons Company has been tasked with the restoration and conservation of over 4,000 limestone elements that create and adorn the fountain. This two-year revitalization project is currently wrapping up, and Lepore will be opening their shop doors to APT and PACA members for an insider’s look at this restoration project before the stone is reinstalled in the Main Fountain Gardens.

This event is free and open to Members Only of APT-DVC and PACA.
