Please join us for a tour of the Nemours Mansion and Gardens

Nemours is the former estate of Alfred I. du Pont near Wilmington Delaware.

The mansion, containing approximately 102 rooms, was designed by Carrére & Hastings and was constructed between 1909 and 1910.  The gardens, which took another twenty years to complete were largely designed by Carrére & Hastings and are among the best-preserved examples of the Beaus-Arts movement in American landscape.

During a five-year period, beginning in 2004, the Mansion and Gardens underwent a complete restoration.  The team was lead by John Milner Architects and was awarded the Pennsylvania AIA Silver Medal in 2009.

Our tour will begin at 12-noon at the Visitors Center on Delaware Route 141.  You can get directions from the website:  Public transportation is not available.

Please arrive 15 minutes early.  We will be given an orientation at the Visitors Center and then be driven by shuttle into the estate to the Mansion.  At the Mansion we will be divided into groups of five for a tour that lasts approximately an hour and a half.  Following the Mansion tour, Rodney Robinson, who lead the garden restoration effort, will lead a tour of the recently restored gardens.  Our tour should be completed by 3pm.

Food and drink are not permitted in the estate.  We suggest you have an early lunch before the tour begins if you cannot wait until 3pm.
